National Nutrition Week 2023 : Few vital aspects

A nutritious, well-balanced diet ensures proper growth and development of both the mind and the body. It comes up with a healthy and happy life. A proper diet ensures optimal physical and mental well-being of individuals.

Background:

A significant initiative was first taken by the Food and Nutrition Board of the Government of India which is now a part of the Ministry of Women and Child Development in the year 1982. Since then the first week of September(1st-7th September) is celebrated every year as National Nutrition Week in India. The initiative was launched to make people aware about the importance of nutrition and healthier eating habits.

Theme:

The theme of National Nutrition Week of this year is “Healthy diet going affordable for all”. This year the celebration of National nutrition week focuses on affordable food. The program aims that everyone can access a healthy balanced diet regardless of their economical or societal status. In India many people are suffering from malnutrition. In India, approximately 62.7 % of children and adolescents are deprived of nutrients which are very essential for their body. Poverty, lack of awareness and unhealthy lifestyle contribute to malnutrition in India. Mainly due to these factors people can not afford healthy foods.

During the celebration of National Nutrition Week many workshops, seminars, community awareness camps, talks and other activities take place throughout the nation.

The celebration of National Nutrition week is very significant because it focuses on how nutrition is helpful in maintaining good health and preventing many diseases. Poor dietary choice leads to potential risks of our body. National nutrition week aims to aware and educate individuals about the nutrients their bodies need to maintain a good health. The celebration of this special week motivates people to adopt healthier lifestyle, good eating habits which lead to an improved quality of life. This week tells the necessity of having a variety of foods to prevent the deficiencies of micro-nutrients in human body.

The celebration of National nutrition week is not limited to only these 7 days; it goes beyond these days leaving an impression on the good nutritional habits in our daily life. We can build a healthier society by uniting and working together.
